Welcome, welcome, welcome!
Welcome all to the inaugural NZ Sciguy blog post. I suppose this is as much a welcome to you all (my imaginary readers), as it is introducing myself to my inner writer. The idea here is to populate this blog (or page? site? I’m new to word press, and a not-exactly-young guy posting on the internet for the first time, so am still figuring this all out) with lots of different types of creative writing, some podcasts/audio, and general blog entries, all focussed on the wonderful world of science.
I’m really interested in where good story telling and science intersect. Growing up, I indulged in reading fantasy and science fiction stories, and loved daydreaming about imaginary worlds. I when on to study chemistry and biology, but as life has it, only recently finished my studies after a long time away from education. Through it all though, my curiosity and passion for science never waned, and I became increasingly interested in how sciences stories are told. As far as I can tell, science is as close to real world magic as you can get, which I think is why I’ve always been drawn to it.
In reality, science is slow, methodical, and in all honesty can make for very dry reading, which is why good stories can inspire, and really shape how we view its steady march onward.
